Matt Bent is a Brooklyn-based drummer and sound artist whose work blurs the line between ambient sound art, free improvisation, and fractured club structures. He builds immersive ecologies of sound in which orchestral timbres and modular synths collide with live percussion. His approach emphasizes clarity of gesture, micro-rhythm, negative space, and the physicality of sound.
Bent is co-founder of 5950.exp, a music studio specializing in forward-thinking hybrid sound practice. His collaborative work spans a wide range of artists such as JIALING, Ex Wiish / Ben Shirken, Poncili Creacion, Jason Lindner, Trevor Dunn, Pleasure Factory, Taraneh, Aliya Ultan, CGI Jesus, The Beak Trio, Simon Hanes, Greg Paulus, Crosslegged, William Alexander, Yay Spray, and others.
Bent’s artistic reach extends internationally, with his work being presented at institutions including Roulette Intermedium, Dripping, the Brooklyn Museum, ZAP Outdoorz, Light and Sound Design, PAGEANT, Current Space, the Museum of Tolerance, Public Records, LIFE WORLD, and Kaleidoscope.
